How do you handle unused clothes stacked in your house?

DonateCloset enables users to search for nearby donation drop off places, book a pickup service to take their clothes to donation organizations, and search for places that accept stained or ripped clothes. DonateCloset encourages people to donate their unused clothing to those in need, thereby contributing to a more socially and environmentally sustainable society.

BACKGROUND

Textile Waste, Fast Fashion Waste

There are 11.3 million tons of textile waste - 85% of all textiles become landfill every year, estimated only the US.
Consumers throw away 81.5 pounds of clothes every year in the US.

WRAP UP

Takeaways

01 Improve accuracy and build more empathy by interviewing employees of the donation organizations

  • Surveys, interviews, and user tests were done in consumer user’s side only

  • Want to talk with people working in donation organizations and understand deeply from their perspectives

  • These exploration can discover new functions needed or change current task flows

02 Additional exploration in the future

  • Develop another task flow, such as tracking booked pickup service or messaging with the person visiting within the application

  • Tracking or messaging service would need ‘My profile’ page, thus would like to design and develop on these concepts

  • Add a page for digital certificate that they have donated in order to encourage donation and feel that they are contributing to society

  • Explore more about efficient ways of filtering organization, so that users can find more quickly places to send all kinds of clothing
