Location based social network service for neighborhood pet lovers
SUMMARY

Location is important both in adopting and raising pets. After interviews and comparative research, this project finds problems existing in current applications and suggests a new design to solve the problem.

It started with a thought..
“Where can I find a puppy that I can adopt near me?”
User Voice
Interview
“There are a lot pet adoption apps and shelters, but I can’t find pets from just people.”
Dennis Owerd
“I want to adopt a pet near me, so that my pet and I can sometimes see the parent if possible.. and I can trust my neighbors than a stranger”
Madeline Humphery
“I hope to interact with my neighbors and ask more about adopting pets! Information from neighbors are reliable than others”
Jiyeon Kim
From the interview…
People want to adopt pets from nearby neighbors, but they cannot find them. They can only find pets from shelters.
People want to get pet related information from neighbors.
Why Neighbors ?
People find neighbors more trustable and reliable than others.
They can go see the pet or pick them up when they live near.
After adoption, if the neighbor agrees, they can let their puppy interact with their parents.

Takeaways & What I learned
01 Focus on main purpose, problem, and goal
Since this was my first experience of creating a whole new application, creating wireframes kept leading me to consider all parts of the app. This tended to hinder my focus on the initial purpose of why I decided to design this app. I tried to rethink my problem statement and planned user testing on the main problem.
02 Additional Exploration
I focused on adopting pets from reliable neighbors in this project. However, if there is more time, I would love to explore about helping neighbors find lost pets or research more about communicating with other neighbors who have pets. I believe this application can further provide useful service to pet raisers.
